SOCIAL VACCINATIONS PROJECT
ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS IN A
All our dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them.
As children, we receive vaccinations for a variety of diseases (such as measles and
mumps). These vaccinations protect us as we grow up, supporting us to have on-going
good health into later life.
The partnership behind this project, consider that a similar approach can be taken in a
social context. Social Vaccinations is the innovative concept of bite sized non formal and
informal learning that helps the individual to cope with the challenges of modern day life.
The project has created a range of bite sized Social Vaccination training and learning
materials for practitioners working with socially excluded groups, which combined provide
practical holistic support for the individual. By stealth, using informal learning the individual
(and often their partner and family) will develop skills and resilience to cope with life in a
stronger more positive way. This will reduce their dependency on individual member
states, reduce the financial cost of social exclusion and foster safer communities, support
the development of employability (challenging generational unemployment) and encourage
participation of whole families in lifelong learning.
Social Vaccinations can be used with a wide range of target groups across the EU
including: young people (not in employment, education or training), lone parents, offenders,
short and long term unemployed, abused women and men, culturally diverse or sexually
excluded groups, Roma and older people facing exclusion.
Our partnership consists of a range of 3rd sector organisations across the EU in England,
Estonia, Portugal, Spain and Slovakia.
